Idaho Golf Trail Starting from Eagle, the Idaho Golf Trail journeys over a thousand miles before returning, passing by many of Idaho's most famous natural wonders en route. Stops at Sun Valley, Whitetail and Coeur d'Alene Resort treat golfers to some of the state's best pampering, and they can gamble in Worley.
Morrison-Knudsen Nature Center In the Boise River Greenbelt, the nature center has a nice outdoor nature walk and an informative indoor visitor center. Children in particular enjoy the underwater viewing windows along the center's stream walk, and educational events are family and youth orientated.
Boise National Forest In summer visitors may camp, hike and horseback ride in the forest, and in winter skiing and snowmobiling is enjoyed. There are over 7,600 miles of streams and rivers and more than 250 lakes and reservoirs within the forest grounds, which may be explored by raft, kayak, and sailing boat, and water-skiing is also allowed. Ice fishing is a popular winter activity in the forest.
Bruneau Dunes State Park Mountains of wind furrowed sand rise above a cluster of lakes and marshes near Eagle. A visitor's center provides an excellent introduction to the geology, flora, and fauna of the park, and has interesting fossils on display. Visitors may camp, fish, hike, picnic on the dunes, and go swimming in the lakes. Trails wind through high desert, where lizards scamper away at your approach and you may spot a coyote. Bruneau also has an astronomical observatory.
Lucky Peak State Park About ten miles east of Boise, and close to neighboring Eagle, Lucky Peak contains a lovely fishing and picnic spot on the river, Sandy Points Beach (at the foot of the Lucky Peak Dam) and the Spring Shores boat docks and marina. The Oregon Trail winds through the park, offering superb hiking and biking opportunities.
Eagle Island State Park This beautiful 545-acre park is open for day-use and has many scenic hiking and horseback riding trails, great swimming spots and a water slide.
Hells Gate State Park Hells Gate has one of the deepest gorges in North America, and through it winds the shining Snake River. A large beach area sits on the river, and there are miles of hiking and biking trails winding through the grass and trees. The parks low elevation gives it a longer period of warm weather than anywhere else in the state.
The Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area About thirty-five miles south of Boise, this stunning river canyon habitat is home to the country's largest concentration of birds of prey. Bald and golden eagles, peregrine falcons, prairie falcons, kestrel, merlin, and several owl species are all protected within the park.
